The webinar will feature​ Dr. Natalie Alizaga, Assistant Professor in the Psychology Department at Cañada College in Redwood City, CA. Dr. Alizaga's research​ assesses factors that influence tobacco and cancer-related health cognitions and behaviors among lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) individuals, low-income populations, and racial/ethnic minorities.
 
Target Audience: Health care providers, public health professionals, health departments, community-based organizations, promotores de salud/community health workers, and other Hispanic-serving stakeholders working with local communities.

In commemoration of World No Tobacco Day 2019, please join the Nuestras Voces (Our Voices) Network Program webinar: Promoting Tobacco Cessation Through Evidence-Based Clinical Interventions and Global Awareness Campaigns. In this webinar you will learn how oral health faculty and clinicians incorporate tobacco dependence education in their work with students and patients. The webinar will also highlight global campaigns such as World No Tobacco Day, and how multi-sectorial stakeholders can engage and promote its multilingual messaging and communication strategies to raise awareness about the harmful and deadly effects of tobacco use in diverse communities. The webinar will also provide information about available resources to support tobacco cessation promotion and education.

Empowering Hispanic Youth to Take Action for a Tobacco-Free Life (September 27, 2018)
Hosted by: Nuestras Voces (Our Voices) National Hispanic Network to Reduce Tobacco-Related and Cancer Health Disparities 
This webinar introduces the participants to the work of the Truth Initiative to achieving a culture where all youth and young adults reject tobacco. It will also describe effective strategies and provide information on available resources to empower and engage youth and organizations to take action in their communities to achieve a tobacco-free future. According to recent data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the FDA Center for Tobacco Products, the prevalence of ever use tobacco products was 32.5% for middle and high school students between 2014-2017 period. Hispanic students were among the groups with higher prevalence of ever use tobacco products (35.1%) and they were also more likely to have used tobacco products when compared to non-Hispanic white (32%) and non-Hispanic black (32.2%) students. These results underscore the need for targeted efforts to inspire and empower Hispanic youth to counter the tobacco industry’s influence in their communities.

Este curso ha sido elaborado en el Departamento de Enfermedades no transmisibles de la OPS y está disponible de manera gratuita. Este curso está dirigido al personal del nivel primario de atención, a los trabajadores sanitarios de la comunidad y a los estudiantes, tanto en las carreras de salud, como en otras disciplinas relacionadas. Los materiales del curso avanzan a lo largo de la historia natural del cáncer cervicouterino revisando todas las actividades que se pueden realizar, a través de esta, para manejar la enfermedad. Estas actividades incluyen, la vacunación contra el VPH en adolescentes, el tamizaje en mujeres adultas, la derivación para diagnóstico o tratamiento de las mujeres con resultados anormales de tamizaje; el tratamiento de lesiones precancerosas o el cáncer invasor y por último, la provisión de cuidados paliativos a las mujeres con cáncer avanzado o terminal. ​Please join the Nuestras Voces (Our Voices) National Hispanic Network to Reduce Tobacco-Related and Cancer Health Disparities for a webinar, on September 29, 2017 from 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm Eastern, on how text messaging services can help Hispanics quit smoking and complete the HPV vaccination series for their children. According to Pew Research, 98% of all Hispanic adults own a cell phone, with an overwhelming majority sending and receiving texts. Not surprisingly, text messaging can effectively help connect this community with health care information and services.

Tobacco and Cancer-Related Health Insurance Benefits in Marketplace Plans (September 21st, 2017)

Despite gains since the launch of the Affordable Care Act’s insurance marketplaces in 2014, Hispanics remain the group most likely to be uninsured. Recent estimates reveal Hispanics have an uninsured rate of 16.2% compared to non-Hispanic whites at 6.7%. Understanding how to best explain the enrollment process, as well as the preventive benefits that come with insurance plans, can increase enrollment, reduce the insurance disparity, and improve the health of Hispanics. This webinar will especially benefit promotores and community health workers who provide health insurance enrollment navigation support in Hispanic communities

Controlling Your Own Density: Strategies to Reduce the Number of Tobacco Outlets in your Community (May 3rd, 2016)​​

Experts will explore different methods for reducing density and outline the legal issues involved with addressing existing retailers. Culturally Proficient Strategies to Improve Cervical Cancer Screening Among Hispanics (March 7th, 2016)​​
