Salud Para la Gente (SPLG) began in Watsonville, California in 1978 as a storefront “free clinic”. With the ever-growing need for health services, it became a federally designated community health clinic in 1992. SPLG aims to provide quality healthcare to the community regardless of financial, language or cultural barriers. In keeping with its mission of “healthcare for all”, SPLG focuses on providing cost-effective, high quality primary health care to under-served, low-income communities in the Monterey Bay area, primarily Santa Cruz County and North Monterey County.
Today, SPLG has grown from its small storefront into a primary health care network with 14 clinic sites, including 7 school-based clinics in the Pajaro Valley Unified School District and administrative offices in Watsonville. SPLG provides medical care for all ages, dental, optometry and behavioral health services, as well as an extensive program of health education and community outreach.
Salud Para La Gente is serving as a subnetwork regional lead agency of the Nuestras Voces Network focusing on CDC’s NCCDPHP Region I, which includes Arizona, California, Hawaii, and Nevada.
