Established in Seattle, Washington in October 1972, El Centro de la Raza (The Center for People of All Races) is a voice and hub for the Latino community in Seattle and the Martin Luther King, Jr. County to advocate for and achieve social justice. El Centro de la Raza provides an array of bilingual and multicultural services: child and youth programs including childcare, afterschool mentoring and tutoring, and workshops dealing with the complex subjects of Latino history and race by utilizing the arts as a medium for social change and community activism. At their Francis Martinez Community Service Center, human and emergency services are provided, including hot meals, food banks, subsidized healthcare assistance, low-income and transitional housing, and immigration and civil rights advocacy. El Centro de la Raza also seeks to promote self-sufficiency and empowerment within the community through bilingual education and skill building programs covering topics such as financial literacy, ESL, citizenship and homeownership education. El Centro works to unite communities of all races, genders, ages and classes to fight for civil and human rights locally and globally.
El Centro de la Raza is serving as a subnetwork regional lead agency of the Nuestras Voces Network focusing on CDC's NCCDPHP Region J, which includes Idaho, Oregon, and Washington.
